St. Laigneach founded a monastery here on the Southern shore of Lough McNean in 550. He is associated with St Brigit. The present church building is 12C. There is a cluster of early churches around here: Holywell (qv).

Behind the church are a complete set of bullaun/prayer stones. St Brigit’s holy well is obscured by nettles and brambles.
